Continued - UPDATING YOUR HOME:  FROM TRADITIONAL TO TRANSITIONAL

When homeowners would like to update from their traditional home, here are a few ways to get the look from traditional to transitional:

PAINT - This is the easiest and cheapest way to update a gloomy room to a more airy and light-flied room.

NEW LIGHT FIXTURES - Less fussy, streamlined light fixtures can make all the difference.  Often, this change can make the most significant difference in the look of a room.  And, it doesn't have to be a hugely expensive item.

NEW CURTAINS - To get a more contemporary look, another item which will make a world of difference is to get rid of the heavy, fussy, dark drapery, swags, frills, and any other extras.  Surround windows with light and minimal drapery such as sheers or linen curtains.

A NEW RUG - large enough to encompass most of the furniture in the room adds a new look and life to the room.  Transitional rugs  sometimes incorporate a fresh look from old patterns, color and scale.

ACCESSORIES - Edit accessories to look more "organized", such as everything of a kind placed together instead of being spread out.
Not every possession needs to be shown either.

All of these simple additions can add a fresh look to a traditional interior which aspires to be a transitional room.

Good luck with updating your interiors!

Please check the very last sentence of the first paragraph.  It should read "The look they are after is the TRANSITIONAL style."

More on this topic to follow soon!

UPDATING YOUR HOME: FROM TRADITIONAL TO TRANSITIONAL

For many reasons, many homeowners would like an update from their traditional home, either because they have lived in the house for many years, or are tired of the

"same old, same old".  They, at the same time, do not want to get rid of everything, sometimes for sentimental reasons, but want to have a more up-to-date and "modern" look.
Usually, they don't know where to begin the process of elimination and addition to get the contemporary look they are looking for. The look they are after is the "Traditional Style".

When the transitional style is done right, we at FLAIR INTERIOR DESIGN sometimes hold onto the classic furniture (if it is worth holding onto) and fill in with more contemporary items.  An important idea to remember though - adding a single contemporary or modern item will not give you the look.  Here are a few ways to get the look from traditional to transitional.

Stay tuned!!  Our next blog will list the ways to get the look you want!
