People think you need to use small artwork in a small room, but the opposite is true.  One large piece - or a grouping that reads as a single big   piece - works best, opening up the room to make it feel larger.  Here, framing a selection of black and white photos as an ensemble gave the same impact as large piece of art would have.

Bookcases provide an opportunity to interject personality into a room.  You can showcase your personal style with organized arrangements of books, collectibles and art.  Use the bookcase as a frame for your possessions and to tell the story of who your are.  The items in and around the bookcase tell the story.  By using family photos in interesting frames and groupings, interesting objects that are meaningful to you, layered in an interesting fashion,  you can tell the story without words.

There are no hard and fast rules to achieving a stunning display. Experimenting by adding or taking away items can achieve the look which is the most pleasing, and it is also a lot of fun to experiment with the arrangement.  Although there are no rules, it's useful to use just three to five objects on a shelf.  Books can also be used as display platforms to get the height of the objects just right.

Using too many colors and contrasts results in a visually disorienting space.  Experiment with SHADES of the SAME COLOR.  This can create interesting effects.

Instead, art should be hung at eye level.
As a guideline, when art is hung above furniture, make sure that it is 8 inches above the top of the piece.  It should look like they sit together.

Live green plants give a home a warm, hospitable and healthy environment.
Plants bring the natural beauty from the outdoors into our living spaces.  They also add texture and color to the decor.  Magically, they make a home feel lived in and more appealing.

Plants also help clean the air we breath, and naturally make us feel better by just looking at them!

If any of your plants look forlorn, get rid of them.  Check them on a regular basis,  
and take care of them well!
