 An area rug beneath the dining table should extend at least two feet beyond the table's dimension in each direction. What you don't want is that whenever you pull out a chair that the legs get caught in the rug. We hope you'll be enjoying many dinner parties in your pretty dinning room!

I think it depends upon the size of the area and where is your dining. For example, if there is less space to be able to pass through from the dinning than it will be hard to manage a rug under dinning.
