HOW TO MAKE THE BIGGEST IMPACT POSSIBLE FOR THE LEAST AMOUNT OF MONEY!

We, at FLAIR INTERIOR DESIGN want to
discourage the myth that your have to be wealthy to afford an Interior Designer.  Another myth is that Interior Designers are only interested in large jobs, such as several rooms or an entire home.  Some Interior Designers may be focused in this direction, but we are not.

At FLAIR INTERIOR DESIGN we are very happy to help you with just one small thing....a window treatment for example.  This "one thing" could make a large impact on the beauty of your room.

Starting "small" or taking "simple steps"
is a great way to start an Interior Design project for a client.  It all doesn't have to happen overnight!  Many clients do one or two things at a time over a long period of time.  This is easier on the budget, and gives them small perks that elevate the beauty of their homes as they go along in their relationship with us. We hope that you will contact us for help in a small project you have in mind.

WAYS TO GET MORE FROM YOUR SUMMER PORCH

6/19/2013

1) Set up an outdoor dining space.
Eating el fresco is even more pleasant when you make your space as comfortable as possible.  Start by using a table as big as will comfortably fit on your porch...ample rooms is best for leisurely meals.  Add plump cushions to your chairs, put a lantern on your table and hang tiny, white string lights overhead.
2) Bring color outside with cut flowers, either blooms from your garden or a bouquet from the market.  How pretty they will look as you sip your morning coffee.
3) Hang a porch swing.  The look invites relaxation.
4) Display summer gear.  Put up hooks to hang wet beach towels on or toss sandals in a basket by the door.  You'll make things easier for yourself and create instant decor.
5) If the sun or heat are keeping you from enjoying your porch, add an outdoor ceiling fan or a set of outdoor drapes.  The moving air from the ceiling fan can also help discourage mosquitoes!

Hope you enjoy your porch this summer!

DOWNSIZING TO A SMALLER HOME

Are you thinking of moving to a smaller home?  Or perhaps you have already purchased your smaller home, either a house or an apartment, and are thinking about what you can take and what you cannot take with you.  It's a difficult job
to make these decisions.  We think it's best to "hire a professional" to help you.

After we see your new space or see a floor plan of the space you will be purchasing, we will be able to help you make the right decisions.  If there is a special piece of furniture that you must keep with you, we'll find a way to make it work.  It could possibly be put in a different room than you'd expect or put to a new use altogether.  And, there will more than likely be some furniture that just won't fit, and that you could emotionally do without.  For these pieces, we can help you find replacements of the appropriate size.  We can also help you pare down your other possessions as well.  We know how hard parting with things that you've had room for in the past can be.  We'd be delighted to give you a helping hand!

DESIGN TIPS FOR YOUR HALLWAY

5/18/2013

Picture
MAKE THE DOOR STAND OUT:  Try painting the back of your door, instead of keeping the traditional white!  Go with a bold color that compliments the theme of your home.

CREATE AN ART GALLERY: Choose a focal point in the hallway, possibly at the bottom of your stairs or in the middle of your hallway, and put up an array of pictures...wall art together.  You may even add a few mirrors to make the area appear bigger and brighter.

VERTICAL STRIPES:  Does your hallway seem a little narrow?  You can remedy the appearance of your small hallway by adding vertical stripes along the walls to give the allusion of a taller hallway.

PROPER LIGHTING:  With the right type of lighting you can drastically transform your hallway from boring to glamorous!  By investing in the proper fixture you can improve the overall mood and make a subtle but lasting impression on everyone walking down your hallway.

FUZZY BUTTONS they are called!  You can purchase them through FLOR Inspired Modular Floor Covering.  You can check them out at pinterest.com/flortiles.  They come in lots of sizes, shapes, and colors and can be used as wall to wall carpeting, or rugs in any room.  See how great they look in this hall from a recent job of ours!  The client loves them, and so do we!

Design "Tip" for Today - ROLLING KITCHEN CART

USE A ROLLING CART WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE SPACE FOR AN "ISLAND" IN YOUR KITCHEN.

If your kitchen just isn't quite wide enough for a permanent "island", try using a rolling cart with a work surface, and shelves below.  This attractive cart fills the bill.  It can even be rolled away into a nearby pantry if it needs to be out of the the kitchen for a while.    Jean & Tatiana, FLAIR INTERIOR DESIGN, www.flairinteriordesign.com,

DESIGN TOP OF THE DAY - PROPER RUG SIZE FOR THE DINING ROOM

An area rug beneath the dining table should extend at least two feet beyond the table's dimension in each direction. What you don't want is that whenever you pull out a chair that the legs get caught in the rug.  We hope you'll be enjoying many dinner parties in your pretty dinning room!

DON'T SKIMP ON CURTAINS!
It's important that curtains are measured, designed and sewn correctly.
If you can't afford them right now, put up bamboo blinds or leave windows bare until you can have the real thing.
